The 5 January 1919 Revolution was a military coup orchestrated by elements of the Kathareni Army and Kathareni Navy against the Monarchist government in Mycenaea, which established a 'Republican Convention' in its place.

History
In late 1918, the Kingdom of Katharenia faced economic and political stagnation under the monarchy, further worsened with the arrival of the global economic crisis Black Monday. Agricultural exports collapsed, payments for foreign debts ceased and foreign lenders withdrew credit.

Discontent among military officers and junior officers would rise, with income drastically lowered. On the political stage, years of constitutional conflict, vetoes of economic recovery legislation and frequent dismissals of ministers and forced dissolution of parliament two times, caused significant amounts of military officers to align openly with the Republicans in parliament.

The lack of governmental intervention and inaction of change from the monarchy had alarmed many citizens, with many officers in the army receiving letters asking for change.

On 5 January, a coalition of republican army officers, elements of the Mycenaea garrison and members of the Liberal National Party launched a coordinated uprising. Key ministry buildings, telegraph stations, and bridges were seized with no resistance. Republican aligned naval officers secured the Mycenaean harbor district, preventing royalists from evacuating by the sea.

Following the morning, parliament convened a session under military protection and issued a resolution under the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies:

"The monarchy has forfeited the confidence of the nation and shall not exercise authority over the Kathareni state."

Unwilling to risk bloodshed in the capital, King Constantinos I resigned and went into exile to the Tsardom of Moesia, travelling by train towards the north.
